We return for what is sure to be another special night at a legendary underground venue.
We also wanted to share some of the reviews from around the web for our last event. We hope everyone
had a blast on Raw Goggin Valentines.
A great review of AudioKinesis: Raw Goggin from: http://frimerman.wordpress.com/
This was one of the better gigs I've been to in months.
The Compound SF is an authentically off-the-main-stream spot. The location is remote and isolated, surrounded by abandoned structures. Although it's on a periphery of residential area, it really has a feeling of an industrial waste-land.The space itself is small and intimate, but reasonable to accommodate those who come to listen and those who come to dance.
From the moment I walked in, I felt like I am part of the tribe, community and feeling my most primitive drive to be part of sound and dance, worshiping the "fire" in the middle of the space - the DJ. We got there late (after a decent party at the Elbo room) and came when Three was spinning. I was blown away. When you go through weekend after weekend of listening to hyped-up DJs with lots of tricks and little content, coming across someone with so much talent and feel for music, was simply superb.
The word that kept coming up for me is SUBTLE. I can't quite grasp the words to explain it yet, he didn't need loud volume to get you swaying to his rhythms. He didn't need to incorporate off-the-wall world beats, alien, Gothic experimental sounds, or deep base to get you in the trance-like state. There was something about the flow of music, that got you addicted to it in a most subtle way, Three has an amazing sense of style and fluidity. I was really drunk with his music, and felt myself enter the trance state over and over beyond my ability to control it; I simply participated and savored it. (I don't use any substances - i've learned with years that electronica produces enough natural, chemical response for me to fly away).
At 3Am Damian took over the floor. It took him a good hour to warm up, but once he did, he really brought it on. He had an interesting, much more experimental sound, I liked his incorporation of the mic as part of the sounds and a sense of darkness to his music overall. At a few high points I felt as if he was pulling long forgotten roars right out of my chest. His music brought with it a great sense of the mysterious, dark, outer-space, metallic, and a desire to jump off the cliff just to hear the sound of the abyss beneath. I loved it. Such contrast between him and Three, such an adventure. Thank you guys, you made my night.
Here is some of the online chatter on AudioKinesis: Raw Goggin.
Got there at 3ish and Lazarus was on! Everyone was telling me how sick Three was but man Lazarus was good too! Got a text at 8:29AM telling me to "come back to the compound, no end in sight..."
Awesome night, awesome venue. Wish Three had played longer as he was knocking out a darker sound that was pretty intense in such a small dark room. Damian killed it too, loved the efx and vocals he threw in.
Damian had SO MUCH going on! I remember getting inside and seeing the booth set up with a ton of gizmos! Oh man, 9:30ish? Sounds so epic even with the rain! Guessing this will beat out Dan Bell at the compound from November.
Every dj i hear play at the compound manages to drop the best set i've heard out of him. it really is the perfect forum for underground djs. Three and lazarus were no exception! Three is obviously a great dj/person and most people i knew went to hear him and were thoroughly impressed, but let's talk about Lazarus for a second... i heard him at vessel once before and he never left much of an impression on me there--neither did Three though when he played there. probably because both came on a Thursday and the club didn't fill or stay filled. but wow, when Damian hit the decks running and took off for about 6 hours, i heard a completely different dj in action and i was loving it. as friends began leaving the compound early, i was like wtf are you all doing??? i couldn't bring myself to leave until the music stopped. when it got bright outside and the space inside cleared out, the music and people remaining got more comfortable and the vibe took on a different life. it was a very intimate party by the end. definitely one of the top 2 compound experiments in my book. it's just unfortunate that more people weren't around to bear witness to the final hours.
Another EPIC compound experience. Musically it was the best I have heard there. Three was dope and Lazarus took it to another level. The effects he was using were unreal! Especially when he was using the mic! Fucking sick ass night.
We were running out to my car sometime during the night in the rain and Matt ran full on into one of the metal crossbars out near the metal structure by the parking lot. Had to be one of the funniest things I have seen. Then my car turned into a hospital. We stopped the bleeding and then went back in and kept going!
EPIC PARTY! The music was top notch - loved every minute of it! After getting clotheslined by the metal beam, we returned to the party for a few hours, but the bleeding wouldn't stop so I had to leave. :/
thanks for another legendary night of music roam! 2 for 2, im definitely keeping an eye out for the next installment.
Props to Roam on the sound too. All night the tuning and levels were perfection.
One of the best parties I've ever been to. Three caught the vibe by 1am, setting up Lazarus perfectly. Damian's first hour was some of the best dance music I have ever heard, dark, heavy and spaced out. I did stay till the very end this time.
it ended at 9. the last bit was a series of dreamlike ballads that made for a very smooth and gentle landing to the ride.

We wanted to thank Damian, Three, Nikola and John for throwing down great music all night. Jarrett and Frankie for some next generation visuals which we will showcase more appropriately in our next event. We also want to thank all our friends who volunteered their help to make this night happen, the great staff at the compound for being thoroughly professional and having the same passion for perfection as we do for our events and finally you our fans for bringing the vibe all night!
